Domaine de Mouscaillo :

Complete visit of this property in one of the most beautiful settings in the L-R, & tasting with owners, Marie-Claire et Pierre Fort.
Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees; at the crossroads of the Atlantic and Mediterranean influences, is Roquetaillade, a little Languedoc village, refreshed by the“cers“and the “marin“winds.
Thanks to this exceptional site, the terroir of Roquetaillade has great potential for producing distictive, high quality wines. After several experiences in different renowned wine areas Marie-Claire and Pierre Fort decided to come back to Roquetaillade, their childhood village, where they grow vines on a small plot of family land (about 4 hectares).
The small surface area means they do everything themselves and control all aspects of the production (1 ha of Pinot Noir and 3 ha of Chardonnay). This tiny vineyard is located 400 metres up in the hills.
Most of it was planted and grafted 35 years ago.
Mouscaillo is two wines :
- AOC LIMOUX BLANC (Chardonnay)
- VDP PINOT NOIR micro cuvée

Day 2: Departure from Montgaillard“to Château L’Hospitalet Narbonne.“

Château L’Hospitalet : Complete visit & tasting.

The first Phoenician and Greek arrived on the Isle of La Clape 25 centuries ago. It’s because of this that the region is considered to be the true cradle of French viticulture. Bourboulenc was planted at the time, it remains an important grape in our vineyard to this day.

Until the 11th century, La Clape was an island, known by the Romans as “Insula Laci“, the Island of the Lake. It protected the port of Narbonne, very important at the time of the Empire. The limestone massif of La Clape presents an extremely rich flora and fauna with unique species found nowhere else in the world.

The dry, hard climate is one of the sunniest in France with 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, 13 different winds currents blow across the land. L’Hospitalet , originally called La Grange des Mizels, was the property of the monks of the Hospice of Narbonne, who grew vine there. It was in 1561 that the first mention of the name Hospitalet appeared.

Over the course of the centuries, l’Hospitalet had many owners and in 1991 the Ribourels family bought the domain, restored the chateau and developed the vineyard. With its unique and noble character restored, l’Hospitalet stands proud and tall as a reference for the renewal of the Languedoc. In 2002, Gerard Bertrand, a man of wine and rugby, realized his dream and acquired one of the jewels of the Languedoc. A child of the region, Gerard Bertrand share with us his passion for terroir wines on the unique site of the massif of La Clape.

Château l’Hospitalet comprises 80 hectares of vines and 1000 hectares of scrubland alongside the Mediterranean. L’Hospitalet’s physical location has a strong mix of natural conditions, like soil, altitude and climate that make it an exceptional terroir for the creation of great wines.

The vineyard is planted with Syrah and Mourvedre for the reds and Bourboulenc, Vermentino, and Grenache Blanc for the white wines, on limestone soils, conquered from the surrounding scrubland. The wines are vinified in a modern vat room with temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and then aged in some of the 2000 oak barrels in the underground cellar.

Lunch at ”H” restaurant on the property.
